Kirby I like your stop motion. I really liked the movie references to Farris Beuler’s Day Off with the Star Wars characters. It was really cool to see your subjective take on the classic. I really liked how you chose to utilize your lighting in the piece. I think I remember you saying that you had your action figures in front of a laptop screen. That was super creative as a background solution. I think that you did a great job of minimizing the back light effect created by the tons of light produced by the screen. It is hard to expose for the action figure subject when it is silhouetted by shadows. I think that your lighting produced a lot of contrast in your imagery. I noticed that it seemed like you had a hair light overhead of the action figures. This was very effective in producing an edge line on your subjects. This produces and effect that cuts the subjects out from the background and helps create symbolism of importance of your characters. That is where the audience should focus your attention. I also think that in another way your lighting created a kind of Hollywood mood because of the cinematic style. I also think that you captured the style and genre of Ferris Beuler’s Day Off.
Kirbalicious, I thought your stop motion Rocked due to the Ferris Bueller references. You also did a good job differentiating the characters attitudes using different hues and saturations. It is obvious through the use of more basic colors who is the boss. By having the boss dressed in a simple white shirt and contrasting it with a blue tie, it is easy to determine that he is a boring boss type character. I liked how you used a giant pot leaf on the rebels shirt in order to differentiate him from the boss too. The saturated green pops from the black shirt and lets the audience know he is a “free spirit.” The brightness of the different scenes also helped to understand when the rebels were talking and when the boss was talking from inside the building. The brightness from the window gave a more relaxed feeling where as the darker tones in the building gave a more confined, drab feelings. The use of Ferris Bueller really added a subjective element to your presentation. Those who recognized the references were able to pick up on the story line more easily than those who did not, giving them a different view of the situation. So overall good job although your focus was a little wack but I understand the constraints. The only thing I would change would be to give your characters more movement in order to make them look more life like. Oh yeah, the star wars characters were cool too.
Hey man, I really enjoyed this one. I really liked how you did like a parody in the beginning of Ferris Beuler's Day off. I also liked how you used the lighting in this video. The lighting was used i a way that you could see everything going on in the scene. I also liked how you placed your characters in front of your computer screen to make the background. I found that to be very creative of you. With the combination of the lighting and the background, it really sets this mood that you know someones in trouble but its still funny to watch. The one thing that I wish I could of seen was the shadows. I realize you could not show the floor because you did this in front of your computer but I think that you could of gained some advantage if you used some shadows to set the mood more or to just give a more sense of depth. Another thing that I would of loved to see more of is movement. I think it would of been nice to see some of the characters walking around creating parallel movement but again I do understand that it is hard to do when you are working in front of a computer screen. It also would of added a little bit of "weight" to the characters. Overall though, I thought this was an awesome clip. Nicely done.
